Enchanted Realm of Color

When you enter the Jinny Beyer Studio,
set peacefully among whispering white pines and mature oaks,

you enter an enchanted realm of color.

A fairytale feeling lingers with me even today, coloring my vision.
Tomorrow I plan to read Grimm.

More than when you visit her website,
more than when you read her books,
when you enter her studio,
you step out of your world and into her vision.

This is concentrated Jinny Beyer.
Astonishing beauty, intricacy, and rich, deep, storybook colors are everywhere.

You're walking through a dream forest...the rows of fabric bolts are trees,
the quilts scattered about are fantastic flowers.

Anything seems possible.
Did the jewel hues flow from her fingertips when she waved her hand?

I didn't, however, expect to encounter the Enchantress, herself.
She's been away (in faery lands forlorn?) when we've visited previously.
But as I was coming down the stair,

I met someone on the landing, said hello before seeing who it was,
then passed by a split second later thinking, "Oh, my goodness, that was HER!
This is her dream, her vision in which we're strolling around,
the richness in her soul that's feeding ours."

Just as her studio surpasses her website (which is excellent just the same),
she, in person, surpasses what photos I've seen.
There was a spark in her eyes, a look of youthful anticipation on her face,
and a sweet smile that clearly preceded my appearance,
a sense of focus on a destination--a rare sense of someone who wanted to be where she was.
Was she going to finish laying on paper a design that had formed in her mind?

Tucked away, tucked away, away from the major highways in Northern Virginia,
down curving, wooded backroads is an entire world...this is not a quilt store,
it is truly an artist's studio, an artist's world.

  1. Happy sigh! Such rich, vibrant colours - I'm sure it must have been enchanting to wander through that studio.

Now I'm off to check the websites :)

  3. Eveything you photographed is magic, including Jinny herself. Will you send her a copy of this blog entry? If you don't, then I will! Thanks for sharing a place I probably won't see but I am certainly not going to rule it out! How much fun to see her "Around the World" quilt in its natural habitat. I've made it 3 times and created a Mariner's Compass Wall Hanging from the leftovers. Love her colors - love the "hand" of her fabrics. I love all your posts but especially this one!
