Now what to do with these post-season sale bulbs I bought last week?
We're south of the Mason-Dixon line. I've planted flower bulbs in wet, soft soil as late as Christmas Eve, and had perfect flowering the following spring.
But this year! It's going to be in the teens tonight. It's been in the 20's several nights this week. This once, I pushed it a bit too far.
I suppose I could return them, but...there's supposed to be one clear day in the low 40's this weekend. Maybe the ground will still be workable, and those Red Devons are worth it.
In the meantime, we'll stay inside and keep warm by eating rumballs.
Have one?
Actually, most of the rumballs are for shipping:
But most of the pizzelles will stay home. :-)
Can you smell the steam? We grate one whole nutmeg into these.
Will you have one? :-)

Oh my! Those look delectable! What on Earth is a pizelle???
ReplyDeleteI have not even started to bake but your steaming pizzelle iron has inspired me to have a bake-a-thon today!
ReplyDeleteNancy: A pizzelle is an Italian cookie, made on something very like a waffle iron. Think a much thinner, crisp waffle. Many people make them anise-flavored. We use nutmeg with a little cloves and cinnamon. Sometimes, once they're cooled, I brush them with melted chocolate on one side and sprinkle them with toasted pecans. These are great for late night nibbling when you're reading! :-)
ReplyDeleteNese: Happy baking! :-) I did think of you when I was making the pizzelles!
Mmmm, rumballs! The pizzelle sound delicious too (I've never had one of those, not seen any around here either). So many special treats make their appearance this time of year! I've been enjoying the German stollen that I can buy at World Market!
ReplyDeleteWow! Those look so good--I can almost taste them! Good pics.

What if you plant the rum balls?
ReplyDeleteDonna: We've planted rumballs as late as Christmas Eve, and had them come up fine in the spring. :-)
